Van Persie Fit To Face Norwich

by Phil McGrath on March 1, 2013

Having speculated all week whether or not Robin van Persie would be risked against Norwich at the weekend and having looked at all the angles, today may have changed our outlook thanks to Sir Alex’s press conference.

The overwhelming opinion was that there would be no way that Sir Alex Ferguson would risk his star man ahead of United’s Champions League second leg tie with Real Madrid and that is the assumption we have been working off all week.

Well it would seem that Sir Alex doesn’t like our assumption and has muddied the waters ahead of this weekend’s clash with the Canaries.

During his press conference this morning Sir Alex told the awaiting press:

“We have no injury issues. Robin van Persie has trained this week – he’s available for tomorrow. His hip was very tender but he’s okay now.

“Tomorrow is an important one because Tuesday will look after itself. It’s an occasion on Tuesday whereas tomorrow is the mundane practical situation in that we need to win.”

While these comments do not necessarily mean that van Persie will start against Norwich, they do hint at the fact that the United boss has put far more importance on Saturday’s game at Old Trafford than we initially expected.

Since his press conference this afternoon the Official Manchester United website has also said that:

“There is widespread expectation that Sir Alex will shuffle his pack with Real Madrid on Tuesday in mind but it’s highly unlikely he will field two separate sides.”

This has to beg the question, Do they know something we don’t? and Are we now more likely to see RVP this weekend than we originally expected?

As we said these comments do not go far enough for us to say 100% whether or not we are going to see “Van the man” this weekend, but after those comments his chances of playing have certainly increased.

The question is now, do you hold onto him or continue as planned and ship him out?
