Reading Close in on Pogrebnyak: Potential Fantasy Football Bargain!

by Paul Caffrey on June 23, 2012

Earlier this week it was misreported that Reading had signed Pavel Pogrebnyak but the move is still on the cards and it looks likely that Reading will complete the signing of the big Russian shortly.

Aston Villa have expressed an interest but at present Reading is looking like his new home. Fantasy Premier League managers should keep an eye on the “Pog” as Reading played a style of football on their road to winning the championship last season that will suit the Russian.

The 28-year-old, who spent the second half of last season at Fulham after joining from Stuttgart, is understood to have agreed terms on a four-year deal with the Premier League new-boys.

Despite scoring 12 goals for Fulham last season including a hat-trick against Wolves the Russian has been unable to agree terms at Craven Cottage.

Pogrebnyak is now poised to join last year’s Championship winners, having reportedly completed a medical at the club on Thursday.

Nick Hammond, Director of Football Reading

“Things have progressed well and we are hoping to have an agreement finalised soon,”

“Pavel is a good player and both myself and the manager (Brian McDermott) have had some good discussions with him.

“We are hopeful that we will have the deal finalised soon once he is granted a work permit, which we don’t envisage he will have any problems getting.

Call me crazy, but I just don't see it. The fact is Pogrebnyak is simply not very good. Bar the hattrick, 3 goals in 11 games last season isn't great. Overrated.

Interesting news!

I've just read that Sigurdsson has snubbed Liverpool and signed a deal with Tottenham. If he continues his form from last season, he'll be one to watch.

Looking at bringing in the Pog next season if he does well during pre-season.
