Best Formation for Fantasy Premier League

In Fantasy Premier League you have a squad of 15 players with 2 goalkeepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders and 3 strikers. As you know this leaves you with 4 subs who will only count if one of your starting eleven don’t play. So before you pick your squad or make your weekly transfers you need to have in mind what formation should I play? In general most teams pick 4-4-2 which is the traditional formation most of us have played in or are used to watching. You must remember that your fantasy football team does not need to be balanced with a blend of defensive and attacking players. In fantasy football it is a shame but defensive midfielders/defenders are not rewarded with the points they deserve. It is all about getting goals, assists and bonus points.

The best formation in fantasy premier league is the 3-4-3 formation.

Generally in fantasy premier league players are rewarded for scoring goals and getting assists with additional bonus points. This is reflected when we look at the team of the season for 09/10.

Reina (Liverpool) 164 pts

Dunne (A Villa)  170 pts          Terry(Chelsea) 150 pts          Evra (Man Utd) 168 pts

Lampard (Chelsea)284 pts,     Malouda  (Chelsea) 169 pts,     Fabregas (Arsenal) 214 pts   Milner (A Villa) 184 pts

Rooney (Man United) 224 pts    Drogba (Chelsea) 242 pts   Tevez (Man City)210 pts

Yep, defenders are treated unfairly in this game… At least they should give 1 point each for a CRUCIAL tackle or clearance off the line… coz when one defender makes a mistake and concede a goal, all defenders of that team lose their clean sheet points….

i always prefer 3-4-3 formation… i dont go for 'top' defenders… i choose a regularly playing defender who is cheaper and plays for a team which is defensively good… therefore i save money there and use them to afford 4 quality midfielders and 3 quality strikers…

sometimes i get lucky too… those defenders get me assists and goals too…. eg: Johnny Evans and Rafael of Manchester United.

you can change the formation by substituting a midfielder with a defender.

Something that you haven't taken into account: cost. The best forwards are considerably more expensive than the best defenders.

I'm currently using a 4-4-2 formation and have been doing quite fine. However I'm looking to change to 3-5-2 because I'd rather bolster my midfield with a further player, whilst maintaining two top notch strikers. Often with a 4-3-3 formation, you're bound to have at least one useless attacker (because you can't afford more than two top strikers, otherwise you risk having a poor defense and midfield).

OK, offensive players often get a higher score, but they also cost a lot more. The relationship value points is not always in the attackers favour…
