Gameweek 2 Captain Tips: Will Rooney Score on Friday Night? Who Else Might?

by Paul Caffrey on August 13, 2015

Picking a captain for gameweek 2 is not easy, many fantasy managers will be looking at Rooney on Friday night against Aston Villa and he take our number one spot. Although Sherwood has beaten United with Tottenham at Old Trafford before and got a good result last week, we think that it will be Rooney’s night.

Harry Kane has made the tips too after an indifferent performance against Manchester United last weekend. He played well with little supply. The Englishman played in Eriksen early on and went on to have three attempts on goal but could find the back of the net. He faces a tough game against Stoke this weekend, but we think he will get enough chances to score.

Christian Benteke is an interesting choice for the armband this weekend as he looks to make his Anfield debut in the Premier League. When in Aston Villa’s colors Benteke scored a lot against the Reds, he failed to score for them last weekend against Stoke City and will be looking to break his duck this weekend.

Although he seemed to do nothing wrong against Stoke, Benteke didn’t have a clear attempt on goal and only made a single chance for a teammate to score. The statistics are worrying, but it should be noted that Stoke did a great job stopping Coutinho from playing him in on a number of occasions. Bournmouth are an attacking team who leak goals so picking Benteke as your captain seems to make sense to us.
