Fantasy Premier League Tips: Forwards For Gameweek 4

by Rich Murphy on September 13, 2012

Anyone else lost for what to do last week during the Internationals?  Fear not it’s all back to business for Fantasy league managers with gameweek 4 just on the horizon.  Now it’s just to decide who deserves to get the nod in your forward line, of course with the news that Robin Van Persie is a doubt ahead of gameweek 4 their will be quite a few fantasy managers sweating it out as we wait to hear the verdict on his fitness from Old Trafford. All we know for the moment is that he took a knock  and was subbed off at half time as a precaution and for the moment we will treat it as just that and assume that he will be ok to face Wigan this weekend.

Here are 3 strikers to consider for this weekend and what makes them stand out for upcoming fixtures.

Robin Van Persie (Man United) £13.4 Million Fixture: Wigan (Home)

The Dutch striker was replaced at half time mid-week against Hungary but Louis Van Gaal confirmed there was nothing to worry about and it was just a knock to his thigh and a precautionary measure.  Many a fantasy manager will have given a big sigh of relief at that news!  RVP was back to his best against the Saints and scored a massive 15 points; most will say it should have been 17 after a disastrous penalty miss but he redeemed himself with a hat trick and the winning goal.  This comes on the back of his debut league goal against Fulham; currently seeing him 2nd in the strikers list with 4 goals and 25 points.  Unfortunately, he is also  more expensive to buy than at the start of the season.  This week United face Wigan at home and will no doubt be looking for revenge after the shock loss at DW Stadium in April which contributed to the noisy neighbours lifting the title.  It will be a different story at Old Trafford though as the Reds have bagged 12 goals against the Lattics without reply in the last 3 seasons and scored 5 goals in 2 of those games.  With stats like that who can back against him grabing another goal this week – if you haven’t already got him in your team… it’s now time.

Carlos Tevez (Man City) £9.8 Million Fixture: Stoke (Away)

The Argentine striker has been back to the Carlos of old this season with goals in every game and 3 assists to boot.  If you take the Community shield into account that’s 4 goal scoring run.  He is currently top of the strikers with 33 points and is a huge 800k more expensive to bring on board now than at the beginning of the season.  Against QPR Tevez scored 15 points with a goal and 2 assists, This week City plays a tough Stoke team away in a league fixture they have not won since the Potters returned to the top flight; there have been three  1-1 draws and a 1 goal win to Stoke in this time.  City will need to be at their best but with an inform striker and a league title to retain it is these games where the best players usually put in the performances to prove their worth.

Steven Fletcher (Sunderland) – £7.0 Million Fixture: Liverpool (Home)

Sunderland’s record signing got off to a dream debut away at an in form Swansea with 2 goals and returned 13 points.  Some said the undisclosed price tag of anywhere between 12 and 15 million was crazy business but this appears to have gone quiet with that display.  This week the Black Cats play Liverpool in gameweek 4 who have yet to register a win and have only scored 2 and conceded 7.  With a creative midfield to back him up a goal at home against the Reds should follow to keep his scoring run going.  In the lower end striker bracket he has to be on the watch list as another goal this weekend will see surely see his price rise.  Get in early this could prove the bargain of the season!

There are this week’s tips of the strikers to consider, hope they bring you the bang for your buck and the points to go with it.  The league is not won in week 4 but we all want to start that march up to the top.  If your still stuck join #LiveTime on Saturday morning for all the banter and last minute panicking.

  • Mr Captain

Should I get Cazorla, V Persie, Podolski or Holt ???

  • Graham?

I have V. Persie, Tevez and Graham.

Should I rid myself of the Swansea striker even though they're playing Villa away who have been very poor defensively?

Also remember that Sinclair has gone and they'll depend more on their lone striker up front fro goals.
