Fantasy Premier League: Captain Tips Gameweek 27

by Phil McGrath on February 27, 2015

Oh how we do love a shortened gameweek, not as much as a double, but there is nothing better than losing out on three of the most inform strikers in the league all in one gameweek! can you feel the sarcasm?

Without Costa, Kane or Austin, we have lost three of the top four strikers and we also consider the fact that we are without, Hazard, Fabregas and Eriksen the gameweek seems a little unfair. However these are the weeks that can see fantasy managers make the most of a bad situation and really press home an advantage with some shrewd decision making.

Of course there is no bigger decision than who to hand the armband to, and while we are without a number of big name players, there are still quite a number involved this weekend that have the potential to do quite well for us.

Sergio Aguero is by far the standout contender for the armband this weekend, despite his tricky trip to Anfield. The Reds have managed five clean sheets in their last six games, but with Aguero finally back in the goals after his mini drought, it seems unlikely that Liverpool will be able to contain him. The Argentine hit-man has notched up four goals and three assists in his last five games in all competitions, including that goal in mid-week against Barca and look to be getting back to his best. With an ownership rate of over 27% and rising, he looks set to be the default captain of many this weekend.

The second contender for the armband is another who enjoys a rather large ownership rate, 31.2% to be exact and with many looking to Arsenal to bounce back after a poor showing in mid-week against Monaco Alexis Sanchez is sure to be in the mix. The Chilean international has failed to register any attacking returns since his return from a two game layoff, but the with Everton making the trip to the Emirates this weekend the hope is that he can finally get back to scoring us some much needed fantasy points.

The final contender for the captaincy this weekend as far as we are concerned is Angle Di Maria. The United midfielder may not seem like the best bet for the armband given United’s poor showing against Swansea, but when we look at his stats the former Madrid man has four assists in his last four games. When we dig a little deeper we can also see that he has managed on average 2.5 attempts per game of late and is getting a chance to convert every 35 minutes, so certainly looking at it, it would seem that it is only a matter of time before he finds the net once again. Of course the fact that they face Sunderland also peaks our interest, the Black Cats have only managed to stop United scoring in one of their last ten meetings in all competitions, so certainly it looks like Poyet’s side will have to be on their toes if they are to improve that record.
