Fantasy Premier League: Captain Tips Gameweek 25

by Phil McGrath on February 10, 2015

Looking at the prospects for the mid-week fixtures the captains debate looks set to be a rather straight forward one. With Aguero proving unreliable and Costa still suspended, fantasy managers look set to turn to the Gunners for a somewhat reliable captain.

Of course the big decision is just which one of Arsene Wenger’s men will get the nod for the armband this week. With that said we have done our homework and come up with three contenders that should produce the goods over the course of the mid-week.

The first name on the list of captain contenders for gameweek 25 is our choice in the Arsenal line up Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman may have picked up a rather fortunate assist last time out in the North London derby, but we’ll take it. Looking ahead to the Gunners game with Leicester it seem rather unlikely that Nigel Pearson’s side will be able to contain the Arsenal attack and with Giroud, who has picked up two goals and two assist in his last three, leading the line he looks odds on for further returns this weekend.

The second name on the list come from Chelsea, and as we mentioned with Costa still suspended, Eden Hazard has to be the man for the job. The Belgian international has picked up three goals in his last six and while surprisingly enough those three goals have come on the road, the hope is that he can revert back to his usual strong home performances and notch another goal at the Bridge on Wednesday night when Everton come to town.

Liverpool may have kept four clean sheets on the trot, but with an in form Tottenham side set to make the trip to Merseyside this week Harry Kane has to get the vote of confidence for the armband. The Spurs striker, who is fresh from his derby day double, has registered nine goals and three assists in his last nine outings for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and has to be in the mix this week when it comes to the captain’s debate. As I said Liverpool have managed four clean sheets on the bounce, but with all four of those coming against sides that are below them in the table, it remains to be seen how they will stack up against a Tottenham attack that has looked deadly in recent weeks.
