Fantasy Premier League: Captain Tips Gameweek 23

by Phil McGrath on January 30, 2015

Oh how we do love the captaincy decision each week, we spend most of the week thinking it over, working out who has the best form and fixture, thinking about who our mini league rivals will captain and then by Friday we have finally nail it down only to find that they are injured or suspended.

Yes I am talking about Alexis Sanchez and Diego Costa, with those two out of the picture this weekend is shaping up to be one of the toughest weeks for fantasy managers and unfortunately it doesn’t look to be getting any easier.

However, we have to pick a captain, but the big question is who do we go for? Well once again we have put together a three man short list for the armband that will hopefully help you out.

The first name on the list this week has to be Olivier Giroud, the Arsenal striker has finally got himself back to full fitness and having got on the score sheet last time out against City looks to be the safest bet. Villa of course make the trip to the Emirates this weekend and with Ron Vlaar missing Paul Lambert’s side look like they are going to be for a long day at the office.

The second name on the list is one that not everyone will agree with, but having returned to first team action last time out Sergio Aguero is always going to be a threat, despite his difficult trip to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s exertions in mid-week in the Capital One Cup semi final could prove to be the difference between the title contenders and with Aguero very much the big game player, a big shout on him for the armband could reap dividends.

The final contender for the captaincy this week is very much a differential, however with two goals and an assist in his last two outings under new boss Alan Pardew, Jason Puncheon looks to be a man on form. The Eagles welcome Everton to Selhurst Park this weekend and while they are assured of a tough game, the fact that the Toffee’s defence cannot stop conceding goals is very much in the former Blackpool’s man favour.
